DescriptionThis is a dark-brown alkaline glazed stoneware baluster-shaped jug with applied "ear" shaped handle and restricted collared opening. The jug has an applied timber rattlesnake applied coiled around it. The snake is very realistic with scales in relief, a typical flat head and a set of seven rattles at the end of its tail. It is striped in its natural black-brown and dark yellow.Label TextMichael Crocker American (b. 1956), Jackson County, Georgia and Melvin S. Their realistically crafted rattlesnakes are popular with ceramic collectors, and because of the Museum's recent Southern pottery exhibitions, many works by these talented brothers have entered local collections.
