DescriptionThis is an albumen carte de visite, depicting John Vansant, who was born in Virginia. He was appointed from Virginia, and was Assistant Surgeon, USN, from May 1, 1855, until his resignation on June 22, 1860. He was the Assistant Surgeon, USA, from June 23, 1960; Major, Surgeon, USA, July 28, 1866; Bvt. Lt. Col., USA, March 13, 1865, for faithful and meritorious services during the war. He resigned May 1, 1867.
