Chrysler, Jr. 72.001 Although perhaps best known for his strange, Surrealist paintings, Dalí did not limit himself to this medium. He experimented with a variety of artistic techniques, including sculpture, jewelry design, book illustration, and glass. Since its first rendering in his painting The Persistence of Memory, Dalí has returned to the image of the limp watch many times. It has become a symbol of his Paranoiac Critical method, which involved perceiving reality through irrational means, such as hallucinations or paranoia, and creating visual connections between objects or ideas that are not typically linked in our minds. Dalí’s watch comments on time as a fluid notion that is merely a social construction.
