DescriptionThis carte de visite is a waist-length portrait of Peter Cooper (1791-1883), inventor and manufacturer, who built the first American steam locomotive and who founded Cooper Union. The seated Mr. Cooper wears wire-rimmed glasses and has white hair and white beard. The background is plain; the card mount is rectangular with rounded corners.
