DescriptionThis is a mantle clock with full length figure of George Washington holding rolled papers in his right hand. The figure was interpreted from John Trumbull's "Washington at Trenton." An eagle standing on a globe rests on a plain base. The white enamel face has Roman numerals and below that is a banner between two torches in relief with the words: "First in war/First in peace/First in the hearts of his/Countrymen." The base of the clock has a face in a sunburst and spreading leafage. Clock raised on four drop-shaped feet. It has classical motifs of palmet leaves, volutes, and a human face. The clock is contained within a rectangular case mounted on the base and decorated with a winged figure and surmounted by an eagle.
