DescriptionThis porcelain covered jar is decorated with black and brown slips which are carved away to reveal the white clay body beneath. The two sides of the jar display representations of faces with trees branches and leaves. One of the trees is a weeping willow, the other is unidentified. The salt firing has left light deposits of salt and some firing marks on the body. On the bottom of the jar, the artist has signed his name in the same technique of scraping the black slip from the white clay body to reveal his signature: METZ.Label TextMatthew Metz American, Kendallville, Indiana (b. 1961) Covered Jar, 2000 Slip-decorated, salt-fired porcelain Chrysler Museum of Art Purchase with funds provided by the Walter P.
