DescriptionThe David L. Hack Civil War Photography Collection. This photograph shows General L.H. Pelouze. He has wavy brushed back hair and a beard. He is in uniform of a double-breasted button coat and he is seated in a chair facing to the right. His elbow is resting on the arm of the chair and his fist is slightly curled up in his lap. There is some drapery behind his chair. This is from _Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War_ (Hack Collection No. 2].

Louis Henri Pelouze, 1865 Albumen print (photograph) After Lincoln was shot, he was quickly carried from Ford’s Theatre to a bedroom in Petersen House, a boarding house located just across the street. Staff member Col. Louis Pelouze (1841−1878), seen in this photo, was among the more than 90 doctors, politicians, and aides who tended to Lincoln that night. Following Lincoln’s death at 7:22 a.m. on April 15, 1865, Pelouze and six other soldiers transported his body to the White House. Gift of David L. Hack and Museum purchase, with funds from Walter P.
