InscribedThe verso carries the artist's estate signature - a stamped Thos. P. Anshutz - and two inscriptions, only one of which is fully legible: 1773 A [in a circle] Graham. The frame's backing board carries the stamp of the dealer James Graham and Sons and, again, the Anshutz estate stamp and estate signature.

DescriptionThis sheet of studies in watercolor and graphite is worked on both sides. The principal, recto side contains two watercolor studies of bust-length female figures in somber Victorian dress. On the verso are a series of graphite sketches, including one of a standing male nude at the left and a group of architectural studies at the right.
