DescriptionSmall, woven, bag-shaped basket of bark rather than root; possibly Haida. The word ALASKA is woven into the central band, along with a flag motif (with horizontal stripes of alternating white, red, and blue that are possibly signaling the colors of the American flag). The band is framed, top and bottom, by two lines of white alternating stitches.ProvenancePossibly purchased in Hoonah, Chichagof Island, Alaska
