Like those artists, he worked outdoors, painting series of “impressions” of the same sites under different conditions of light and weather. This spot is on the Seine River, upstream from Paris, near the forest of Fontainebleau. Picabia focused, paradoxically, not on the forest but a stretch of river bank where the lumber from its trees was loaded on boats for use in Paris. Gift of the Estate of Augustus C.
