DescriptionThis covered compote is in the Columbian Coin Pattern. It is colorless pressed glass with raised acid-frosted representations of medals in four different designs: a profile of Columbus; a portrait of Vespucci; a crest, apparently the arms of Spain; and a crest based upon the great seal of the United States. The lid and body of the comport have nine vertical convex broad flutes divided by narrow raised lines, with a "medal" on each flute of the lid and bowl; the baluster stem has a band of six small "medals,"; the finial is in the shape of a stack of coins with a Columbus medallion on top.
