Chrysler, Jr. 71.2207.8 Like Marvin Lazarus, Arnold Newman set out to document artists working in America, debuting his portraits at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1945 with his exhibition Artists Look Like This. Many of these portraits were set in the artist’s studio with examples of their work. Together, Lazarus’s and Newman’s portfolios offered insight to the manners and modes of the twentieth century’s most important artists.
