Label TextDodge MacKnight American, 1860–1950 Winter Landscape, ca. 1910s Watercolor on paper In this winter scene, Dodge MacKnight delicately balances subtle gradients of color to convey a frigid, snowy landscape. The wispy branches of the leafless trees offer an example of the dry brush technique. In that method of painting, the watercolor is applied sparingly in a less diluted mixture, and then the brush is quickly pulled across the paper. Gift of Walter P.
