Label TextAmerican 19th century Brother and Three Sisters in Yellow Dresses, ca. 1855 Half plate daguerreotype Museum purchase 88.146 This hand-colored daguerreotype was found in Roanoke, Virginia. It was included in the 1989 exhibition, Mirror of an Era: The Daguerreotype in Virginia, that was organized to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the invention of photography and the opening of the Chrysler Museum's new building and photography gallery. The exhibition was the first to survey the prolific daguerreotype activity that took place in the state between 1840 and 1860. It included more than 130 daguerreotypes from 18 lenders and traveled to the Valentine Museum in Richmond.
