Label TextKim Keever American, b. 1955 Black and White Woman, 1975 Painted steel Do you see the figure here? Do you see a face? On first glance, all you may detect are a series of triangular shapes. By looking at the outline, however, the idea of a face and some décolletage may emerge. The figure does not have the traditional round head and shoulders of a more naturalistic representation. Kim Keever was highly influenced by the Cubist style of Pablo Picasso and was interested in abstracting the body into basic shapes, suggesting a human figure without providing an exact depiction of one.
