DescriptionA tablet-back turned and paint-decorated side chair with a caned seat. Tapered front legs are turned with rings and coves and small ball feet, Rear legs and side and rear stretchers are turned plain with a slight swell at their midpoint. Front stretcher turned with four rings at midpoint. Trapezoidal seat frame has holes drilled on inner frame edges for cane seat. Outer seat frame members sweep upward in back to meet beehive-turned back supports. Upper edge of the tablet has an applied scroll.; ; Painted decoration consists of, yellow striping, stenciled gilt decoration with free-hand sepia detailing and shading on black ground. Gilt design on back is 90% missing, impossible to discern nature of the ornament.
