The center of the tray is inscribed: "Now is the accepted time".Label TextGorham Manufacturing Company Providence, Rhode Island Tray, 1865-1961 Silver Gift of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. 77.487 Japanese and Chinese ceramics provided shapes for vases and bowls, not just in glass, but also in silver, as seen in this melon-shaped floral teapot. The ornamentation, also derived from oriental ceramics, is created by hammering from the inside to create a relief pattern on the exterior, a technique known as repoussé.
