He was appointed from Virginia, and was Assistant Surgeon, USN, from May 1, 1855, until his resignation on June 22, 1860. He was the Assistant Surgeon, USA, from June 23, 1960; Major, Surgeon, USA, July 28, 1866; Bvt. Lt. Col., USA, March 13, 1865, for faithful and meritorious services during the war.
