DescriptionThis is an ektacolor print photograph of the Copacabana Club in Dallas, Texas. It shows an empty room with a pool table.Label TextLen Jenshel American (b. 1949) Copacabana Club, Dallas, 1985 Chromogenic print Museum Purchase 87.328 Considered one of the leading photographers of the American landscape, Len Jenshel creates haunting, surreal images of backroads and empty spaces. His depiction of color is almost ethereal, and plays on the viewer's emotions as does the often-striking quality of light. Like Joel Sternfeld and Robert Glenn Ketchum, Jenshel frequently captures scenes juxtaposing the beauty of nature with the effects of encroaching civilization. In October of 1985, near Dallas, Texas, Jenshel participated in one of the strangest and most interesting commissions he had ever received. David Byrne, the avant-garde artist and lead singer of the Talking Heads musical group, was making his first Hollywood movie, entitled True Stories.
