Tidewater Virginia is surrounded by water, and Mann created many beautiful images of the Atlantic, the Chesapeake Bay, the Elizabeth River, and the Great Dismal Swamp. The formal qualities of these photographs—their patterns, contrasts, reflections, and textures—make them some of his most artistically complex works.
