Label TextAdolphe Braun French, 1812–1877 Cascade de Bérard, Vallée de Vallorcine, ca. 1865–70 Albumen prints from collodion negatives The substitution of glass negatives exposed in double-lensed cameras made possible the mass printing of albumen contact prints, which were cut out and mounted on cards that fit into stereo viewers. Hundreds of thousands of stereographs, largely of artworks, monuments, and tourist sites, were sold worldwide from about 1855 well into the twentieth century. The Braun firm in Dornach specialized in art reproductions, floral still lives, and Alpine views, such as the famous waterfall near Chamonix, shown here, that attracts hikers even today.
