Not on viewLabel TextAuguste Rodin French, 1840–1917 The Right Honorable George Wyndham, after 1904 Bronze Described during his life as “the most elegant man in England,” the aristocratic George Wyndham (1863 –1913) was a successful politician, statesman, and literary critic. Wyndham first met Rodin in London in 1902 and sat for his portrait two years later. Rather than including the accessories of a politician or writer, Rodin captured Wyndham’s character by attending to the expressive qualities of his flesh. Allow yourself to look at the soft modeling of Wyndham’s skin: the furrow of his brow, the curve of his nose, the line of his jaw, and his fully exposed shoulders and chest.
