Kennedy.Label TextCaroline Kennedy Salutes Father's Casket, November 25, 1963 Facsimile print Purchase, in memory of Alice R. and Sol B. Frank 99.6.2 This image of the five-year-old Caroline Kennedy paying a last respect to her father forms part of a large documentation on President Kennedy's historic funeral. Transmitted worldwide via the newswire services and made to be reproduced in newspapers, this is one of the few original facsimiles still to be found. The original print was coded and sent over the telephone line to a worldwide network of wire service offices from which newspapers would then reproduce directly. While the image gives evidence to the importance of photography in mass media and instant news by mass communication, its warm soft tone reaches further in accentuating the solemnity of the moment.
