DescriptionBrass plate sculpture.Label TextVictor Pickett American, b. 1934 Huehueteotl, 1977 Brass plate Most of my art is the continual exploration and development of three-dimensional form and space, with the resulting combination of material, light, color, surface properties, and movement. —Victor Pickett In Victor Pickett’s sculpture Huehueteotl, the artist presents movement in stasis by showing each frame of a 360-degree curve. The artist merges kinetics—the study of motion—with fine art, depicting a figure 8 in minute detail as you see each metal line shifted slightly to demonstrate the subsequent direction. The artist then alludes to the idea of time in creating a work that suggests progression but is actually static. Huehueteotl is the ancient Aztec god of fire; the name means “old god,” another reference to time.
