Label TextAnn Cole Phillips American, 1906-1990 Two Forces V, 1961 Oil on canvas Circles, swirls, and lines of dynamic color. Shapes that seem to resemble faces and hands. A scene with no focal point, allowing the viewer’s eye to roam the canvas. In this painting, one can imagine the movement of large blocks of whirling color and detect a person or object within the masses. One can make out figures, landscapes, and urban scenes as she shifts between purely non-objective imagery and semi-abstract scenes. Does this work make you feel something when you look at it? How would you describe those feelings?
