DescriptionThe Jean Potain Figure Skating Trophy. Round black marble base-stepped silver platform on top. Marble surmounted by a silver pool wall set with blue enamel plaques separated by short pilasters of lapis mounted in silver. Central fountain silver basin with vase; shaped fluted stem set with lapis panels and surmounted by rock crystal to simulate frozen water. Trophy was made for Palais de Glaces, Paris, 1923. It has been changed in order to hide the fact that it is a trophy and not a centerpiece. The blue enamel panels have been added to hide the engraving of the names of the winners, but they can still be read in the right light.Exhibition History"Treasures for the Table; Silver from the Chrysler Museum," 6/15-8/6/89 “The Jazz Age: Art and Decoration in 1920s America,” Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, New York, April 9 – August 20, 2017; Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, September 23, 2017 – January 14, 2018.
