Label TextRaymond Saunders American, b. 1934 Places, 1991 Mixed media on canvas My work pays homage to the life that is happening in whatever area I am –Raymond Saunders Places is a visual journey around the world. Crowded with references to China, Africa, Mexico, and other places, Raymond Saunders’ vibrant, abstract work is an assemblage of objects and imagery that the artist has discovered on his travels. With its singular, harmonious composition, the work celebrates diversity, but it also touches on issues of racism and apartheid. As a reflection of his personal memories and multicultural experiences, the work invites us on a journey of our own.
