DescriptionGeorge I silver teapot with an ebony handle.

Label TextIrish, Dublin Teapot, 1718-19 Silver with ebony handle Gift of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. 78.82 The first teapots in Great Britain were very simple in style and were copied from the Chinese porcelain and high-fired stoneware teapots, like this Irish example. Since tea was very expensive when first imported into England, the pots were consequently very small.
