Label TextJack Delano American, 1914–1997 In the New Home of a Group of Florida Migrants Just Arrived at Onley, Virginia, July 1940 Gelatin silver print (photograph), printed 1984 Families traveled with only the possessions they could carry, often living from their luggage as they moved from job to job. This photograph shows how migrants neatly displayed their personal effects, but without fully unpacking. The handmade broom suggests how migrants worked to make their accommodations more comfortable.
