DescriptionOne of a pair of silver tea caddies.Label TextSamuel Taylor English, London, (active ca. 1744-1773) Pair of Tea Caddies, 1756-57 Silver Gift of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. 78.114.1-.2 Tea caddies were made in sets of two or three to accommodate both kinds of tea: black and green tea, with the third caddy for sugar. Samuel Taylor seems to have specialized in the manufacture of tea caddies and sugar bowls, as his mark has not been found on other forms. Ornately chased, or hammered, flowers characterize his work.
