DescriptionThis is an oil on panel painting of a seacoast town, on the bay of Naples, Italy. There are several sailboats on a gray, rocky sea. The town is at the foot of a steeply rising coast on the left. The sky, although gray, appears lively with some blue peaking through the white/gray cloud cover.Label TextCastellammare di Stabia, Italy, 1892 Oil on panel Gift of Edith Ballinger Price 94.24.80 Exhibition History"Hidden Treasures: The Art of William Trost Richards," The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, VA, October 2, 1993 - January 2, 1994, cat. #1. “Seascapes by William Trost Richards,” Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA, January 9 - May 1, 2016.
