DescriptionThis is a tumbler made of blown cased glass, cut and engraved. It has ruby overlay on colorless glass, with ruby cut to clear and shaded engraved figures. Narrow ruby band at rim, a broad colorless band, then narrow ruby band and broad scallop border with each scallop having a clear round punty cut at center, then a broad central band of elaborate ruby-shaded engraving on a colorless frosted ground, the lower quarter of the glass consists of a ruby scalloped border with large colorless vertical oval punty cuts in each scallop. The broad central band of engraving features an image of a bearded man climbing up a rocky slope, grasping a tree trunk with one hand and holding a dead hare by the hind feet with the other. He wears a broad brim hat, a loosely fitting vest, an open shirt and long pants. The scene is flanked by foliate scrolls that continue around the glass to embrace a monogrammed shield. The monogram appears to contain the letters J I LB.
