Label TextWilliam Trost Richards American (1833-1905) Untitled, ca. 1884-89 Oil on canvas Gift of Edith Ballinger Price 94.24.81 This scene of pastured cattle against a delicate sunset probably represents Pennsylvania farm country along the Brandywine River. Richards's purchase of a house in Chester County in 1884 refreshed and restored his interest in pastoral subjects. After a brief journey through his new environs, he wrote, "Everywhere there are pictures which make me impatient for next summer."
