DescriptionThis is a gelatin silver print.Label TextO. Winston Link American (1914-2001) ABINGDON BRANCH, JOE DOLLAR WAITS FOR THE CREEPER Near Warrenville, North Carolina, 1956 L2004.11.56 October 22, 1956 was rainy, but for Winston Link, the rain and mist only added to the atmosphere of the landscape through which the Virginia Creeper passed. As Link was setting up to capture the Creeper crossing this modest country road, 15 year-old Joe Dollar pedaled up. For Link, Dollar was that necessary bit of humanity that added vitality to the image and Link asked him to get into the picture. Moments later, Train No. 202 northbound, pulled by Class M 382 with bell ringing and whistle blowing, crossed the road.
