Label TextThomas Webb & Sons Stourbridge, England Vase, ca. 1889 Blown cased glass, etched, cameo-carved Gift of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Summar, Sr. in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Waitzer and Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Branch 2005.16.1 This vase is an example of cameo glass with a green outer layer on a background of shaded glass known as Burmese. It may be firmly attributed to Thomas Webb & Sons because Webb bought the exclusive rights to produce Burmese art glass in England from the Mt. Washington Glass Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1886. Almost all of the raised figures on English cameo glass are in opaque white, so this green figure vase is a major rarity.
