DescriptionThis is a vintage gelatin silver print.Label TextHeinz Hajek-Halke German (1898-1983) Untitled, 1930-32 Gelatin-silver print Museum purchase, in memory of Alice R. and Sol B. Frank 2005.3 A leading figure in avant-garde photography in Berlin, Hajek-Halke's reputation had faded somewhat but was revived with a 2002 solo exhibition at the Pompidou Center, Paris. Between the two world wars, Hajek-Halke was in the vanguard of German photographers who were using the medium in new and exciting ways. These photographers enjoyed the plasticity of the medium and used all its inherent qualities to create work. After the Second World War, he became a member of the international art movement known as Subjective Photography led by Otto Steinert. Thus, Hajek-Halke serves as a link between the important German photographers of the 1920s and the 1950s. He is best known for his work with photo-montage and of the nude.
