Label TextO. WINSTON LINK AND GEORGE THOM, WITH NIGHT FLASH EQUIPMENT New York City, New York, 1956 L2004.11.18 In 1956, after working on the N&W project for a little over a year, Winston Link held an exhibition of some of the photographs in his studio in New York City. This included a number of the images blown up to very large size, to show advertising agencies and the art directors of many publications how capable he was at making photographs that were very demanding to create. He wished to generate some business-and some interest in the N&W project. The exhibition, called STOP, LOOK & LISTEN, ran from May to September. This photograph was the "theme image," and Winston Link, to the left, and his assistant, George Thom, pose with the cameras, large and small flash reflectors, and some of the 4,000 feet of wire needed to make night photographs. Also seen are Coleman gas lanterns, and the marker lights Link used to mark the area in which he had to shoot. His special power supply isn't in the picture. It may not have been completed when this photograph was made in early March. Edited By: DS Approved By: MHM Approval Date: 07/25/2005Exhibition History"Norfolk and Western Railway Photographs by O.
