Label TextAl Capp American (1909–1979) L'il Abner's Ideel "Fearless Fosdick", 1974 Silk screen Gift of Mr. Leslie Kleyman, ICC Industries, Inc. 78.650.1C In 1942, Capp introduced Fearless Fosdick as a strip within-a-strip. Li’l Abner follows the exploits of Fosdick, his favorite comic book character and role model. A title at the top of the scene indicated a shift in narrative for the reader. Fosdick was a spoof of the contemporaneous real strip, Dick Tracy, created by Chester Gould. While Tracy brought down Chicago villains, Fosdick proved to be just as bumbling and nonsensical as Abner.
