DescriptionOne of a series of 17 cartoons.Label TextAl Capp American (1909–1979) L'il Abner's Ideel "Fearless Fosdick", 1974 Silk screen Gift of Mr. Leslie Kleyman, ICC Industries, Inc. 78.650.1C In 1942, Capp introduced Fearless Fosdick as a strip within-a-strip. Li’l Abner follows the exploits of Fosdick, his favorite comic book character and role model. A title at the top of the scene indicated a shift in narrative for the reader. Fosdick was a spoof of the contemporaneous real strip, Dick Tracy, created by Chester Gould. While Tracy brought down Chicago villains, Fosdick proved to be just as bumbling and nonsensical as Abner.
