DescriptionThis framed intaglio print is of a bathrobe. The entire print is red with an outline of an empty bathrobe with the hands at hip.Label TextJim Dine American, b. 1935 Red Sitting with Me, 1996 Grey Sitting with Me, 1996 Intaglio prints Jim Dine transforms familiar, everyday objects—a set of tools, a valentine, a bathrobe—into subjects with remarkable power and a sense of dark mystery. Here, the artist’s bathrobe becomes a searching self portrait. By working and reworking the subject, the empty robes seem to fill with a distinctly human presence. Exploring the question “Who am I?” Dine answers, not by drawing his own face, but by meditating on a beloved article of clothing.
