The 1784 medal: Congress Ratifies Peace Treaty

The official stamp of approval was placed on the peace treaty with Great Birtian when the U.S Congress ratified the treaty on January 14, 1784.

Now it was up to Congress to get the individual States to repeal laws that were inconflict with the peace treaty, affecting the return of the loyalists and the payment of pre-Revolutionary War debts to British creditors. It took until 1787 to accomplish this.

The design of this medal shows a printer tacking a broadside announcing the ratification on a billboard. In the background is the State House at Annapolis where Congress was then meeting.
