Color Lesson VI, 1984
Oil on linen

From a distance, this work may look like an example of computer animation, due to the mirroring at the top and bottom. However, upon closer examination, one can see the brushstrokes and impressionistic style, which attest to artist’s incredible painting skills. Idelle Weber has worked in a photorealist style since the 1970s. Here she represents a large garden scene, with water reflecting flowers and covered trellises. She even captures the rippled quality of the water’s surface. This painting shows how one can manipulate painterly materials to resemble another medium.

Gift of Kitty and Herbert Glantz 2015.9

Provenance Purchased from Seigel Contemporary Art, New York, by Kitty and Herbert Glantz, New York, April 21, 1984. Gift of Kitty and Herbert Glantz to the Chrysler Museum of Art, June 2015.
