DescriptionPortrait of Janeen Hobbs, a shipyard worker from Hampton Roads
Label TextGlen McClure American, born 1954 Janeen Hobbs, General Dynamics, NASSCO, Norfolk, VA, 2014 Archival inkjet print (photograph) Glen McClure photographed Janeen Hobbs as part of a series depicting workers at shipyards throughout Hampton Roads. McClure collaborates with his sitters, asking them to talk about their personal and professional lives. As Hobbs tells McClure, she works as an Industrial Rigger at NASSCO, moving oversized objects with the help of overhead lifting mechanisms and chain assemblies. A graduate of Norview High School, Hobbs still lives in Norfolk. She says that she would be happy for any of her children to work at the shipyard, but only after they finish college.
