DescriptionIcon on parchment featuring the Virgin and Child with angels.This imagery of the Virgin and Child with Angels, like many interpretations of religious icons, made it possible to visualize the stories within religious manuscripts. The icons displayed within the image are Mary (Cultural name: Dïngïl Maryam or (Cultural Name: Ïmmämlak which means mother of God, and the infant beside her is (Cultural name: Mädhane Aläm or Medhame Alem) Christ the savior. Additionally, Amharic name (the main language of the religion) is Maryam. Mother and child are prominent symbols within the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and are also celebrated by special feasts like other repspected Saints. She is a symbol of motherhood, and miraculous inception/ fertility.Unknown
