Label TextTimothy Richards Architectural Models Model of Andrea Palladio’s Villa Capra “La Rotunda” Vicenza, 2019 Plaster and bronze This model shows Palladio’s villa for the cleric Paolo Almerico, built on a hill just outside Vicenza in Italy. Palladio combined four identical Greek temple facades capped by a Roman-style dome, and became one of the most influential designs in the history of architecture. Palladio had great freedom in his design and produced a masterpiece of symmetry, and published the design in his 1588 Four Books of Architecture. This influenced Thomas Jefferson’s design for Monticello, and many others.
