DescriptionThe artwork Cairn Artefact #0210 by Karl Harron is a kiln-formed bowl that has been deeply slumped, diamond engraved, and fire-polished. The glass is opaque white with gray-to-black geometric surface designs created using glass ‘stringers;’ the piece is made with Bullseye Compatible soda/lime glass colors Dense White (lead bearing) and French Vanilla (sulphur bearing). The glass colors and effects change with transmitted vs. reflected light. The artist signed the piece on the exterior near the rim, with a hand-engraved and fire-polished “KH” set sideways within a rectangular form that is intended to look like Japanese characters. The rectangular base for the vessel is of dark wood, made from ancient Irish bog oak.ProvenanceGerome and Gwen Paulson purchased the Harron artwork in 2010 directly from the artist’s studio (Karl Harron Glass Studio) in Ireland. Gifted to Chrysler Museum of Art in 2020.
