The print has a very different shade of green than the other two parts.Label TextUtagawa Hiroshige Japanese, 1797-1858 Triptych of Travelers through a Lanscape Woodblock prints on paper Utagawa Hiroshige was master of the landscape Ukiyo-e woodblock print on paper. He created a number of series, often featuring snow-capped Mt. Fuji, the tallest peak in Japan. The widely visible mountain still has totemic significance today and is a symbol of Japan. This triptych expands on one of those scenes from the beach at Hoda and shows a couple travelling along the coast. Triptychs (a Greek world for "three leaves") were a popular way of making affordable larger pictures using existing production techniques. Gift of James C.
