DescriptionSmall oval platter with a ship in the center; Underglaze blue Fitzhugh border; "TJ".Label TextChinese Export Tureen Stand, early 19th century Porcelain with enamel and gilded decoration Gift of the Winfield Foundation 55.3.31 This small platter or tureen stand, decorated in enamel with a British sailing ship, is obviously for the English market. The blue pattern on the border is called Fitzhugh. This extremely popular pattern was originally designed for Thomas FitzHugh, director of the East India Company, who had a service made with this pattern in about 1780.
