DescriptionA Hitchcock type painted and decorated side chair (one of a pair with M51.1.51). The ground is red on black in imitation of tortoiseshell. The central splat is in the shape of two cornucopias facing inward. Fruit, flowers, and foliage design is stenciled on the splat with metallic powders. The stiles and the turned and arched crest rail are ornamented with stenciled patterns, and ring turnings on the legs are gilt. A split-turned front seat rail and flat side seat rails protect the edges of the rush seat.
