The process had already been perfected at Clewel Potters in Ohio and in several other places. This vase, however, is the largest metal-covered pottery object known to have been produced by Tiffany, which makes it extremely rare. Several smaller examples are in collections throughout this country, although he made relatively few. It is interesting that the object was discovered in North Carolina by the Museum's curator of decorative arts while he was looking for native potters' work. Though the Museum's holdings of Tiffany material are extraordinary by any measure, this unique object was an extremely prudent addition to that collection. Edited By: GLY
